The second year is focused on the Graduate Thesis. The topic for research is chosen by the student with the advice and guidance of the College Faculty, with supervision provided by a faculty member with research and teaching interests related to a student’s research topic.

Individual modules will be offered to develop students’ specific knowledge and expertise around three specific modules such as International Business Marketing, Psychology in a Business Context and Strategic Financial Management and Business Models; and graduate thesis work related to the programme. This means that the programme will assist both those students seeking to pursue further postgraduate study, including at doctoral level and also those students seeking to apply the knowledge they gained in professional contexts, whether in government or non-governmental organizations and private sector.

Operations and Supply Chain Management

The module explores an overview of production and service systems, methods for modelling and controlling systems, and concepts of operations and service management. Topics include macro planning, forecasting techniques, workforce, process scheduling and material requirements planning, and part two covers inventory systems management models and techniques (both deterministic and stochastic models), and lot sizing in continuous and periodic audit systems. The module also provides students with an understanding of the components of supply chain management and their role in business functions and other functions. It creates value, build a competitive infrastructure, leverage global logistics, synchronize demand with supply chains, and measure performance on a global scale. Logistics is the part of the supply chain that deals with the storage and distribution of goods and services in the right quantity, in the right condition, at the right time and in the right place.

Interanational Business Marketing

This module designed to enable students to anticipate decisions that managers frequently face, informing decision-making through a combination of grounded marketing theory and robust marketing metrics. The module considers empirical generalizations and moderating conditions through analysis of complex real-world business situations.

Strategic Financial Management and Business Models

This module describes financial accounting information from a range of organizational perspectives. It will help students explore the theoretical frameworks, concepts and ideas needed to critique and develop strategy, informed by financial data and metrics, extending their skills and confidence in measuring financial performance.

Seminar on International Business Topics

The module is composed of two units: Report Writing and Presentation Style; and Seminar Preparation and Presentation. The unit on report writing and presentation style familiarizes students to common procedures applied in scientific report writing and also methods of preparing a presentation material appropriate for different types of audiences; and oral presentation skills. Seminar preparation and presentation engages students actively in selection of current international business topic for review and presentation; as well as in selection of an academic advisor. Pertinent and current research issues in the field of international business will be identified and comprehensive scientific review will be written for public presentation. In this unit the advisor regulates the reviewing process as well as critically evaluates the review paper’s subject matter and provides proper feedback to the students.

MA Thesis

The module is essentially a master’s thesis which shall demonstrate individual academic efforts of the student to identify problems in various business enterprises in Ethiopia. The research is expected to help in understanding business problems in public and private organisations and potential means of intervention.
