Full-time students admitted to this Programme are expected to complete the Programme in two years. Before the start of the programme, induction trainings will be offered to enable students develop study skills which includes use of Moodle, use of physical and digital library, essay writing skills, time table and lecturer’s profile. During the study periods advanced courses with a total of 63 ECTS and Master’s Thesis work of 30 ECTS will be covered.
The modules taken during the first year are structured in three categories: supportive module which is intended to equip students with ability to design, execute and analyse data obtained from research projects, general modules: designed to increase students’ capacity for leadership and their ability to navigate perpetual change, human resource and organisational management in the context of advances in technology and increasing in understanding of globalization. The speciality modules are designed to enable students acquire subject specific competences in international business marketing, customer handling by understanding psychology of customer and strategizing financial management as well as business models at international level. As part of the course work, students will attend and organize seminars and research workshops in their interest area in collaboration with the programme coordinator.
The second year is focused on the Graduate Thesis. The topic for research is chosen by the student with the advice and guidance of the College Faculty, with supervision provided by a faculty member with research and teaching interests related to a student’s research topic.
Individual modules will be offered to develop students’ specific knowledge and expertise around three specific modules such as International Business Marketing, Psychology in a Business Context and Strategic Financial Management and Business Models; and graduate thesis work related to the programme. This means that the programme will assist both those students seeking to pursue further postgraduate study, including at doctoral level and also those students seeking to apply the knowledge they gained in professional contexts, whether in government or non-governmental organizations and private sector.
The charge for an MA programme at Xpertis College is £3,400 all inclusive, including teaching and all administrative matters such as the issue of certificates – there are no extra fees for this course.
Applicants for this program are required to have an undergraduate degree in a related discipline or equivalent professional experience. They are required to have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 or above in their undergraduate program of study. Each applicant must undertake an initial student evaluation process, comprising interview(s), which will be overseen by the Admissions Board of Xpertis College. The College’s Admissions Board reserves the right to allocate places on the program on the basis of this initial student evaluation process.
The module explores knowledge of research principles, examining the applications, strengths and major criticisms of a diverse range of research methodologies drawn from both qualitative and quantitative fields. The module also enables students to undertake their own independent research project, including critically assessing existing literature, designing a research project and justifying the methodology used, undertaking the gathering of data, analysing findings, drawing conclusions and making recommendations.
The module explores how leaders can manage and leverage technology, and its consequences, particularly for business and/or service transformation. Economic, systems, managerial and sociological approaches will be compared using a variety of case studies. The module will also address linkages between technological development and the creation of wealth; ethical considerations and the changing public policy landscape; the implementation success and failure of technological systems; technology strategy and the management of research and development.
This module explores the interplay between strategic business issues related to human resource management and organisational development and the operational consequences that arise from strategic objectives. These critical problems, faced by a diverse range of organisations, will be critically analysed through case studies. The module focuses on the integrative nature of strategic human resource management and how it can be put into operation with a range of management tools and techniques.
The module describes the topical areas of corporate finance including: capital budgeting, capital structure, dividend policy, corporate governance and international corporate finance are covered. Furthermore, the following topical areas of investment strategies are delivered: raising long-term capital, financial and operating leasing, Initial public offerings, and mergers and acquisitions.
The module explores an overview of production and service systems, methods for modelling and controlling systems, and concepts of operations and service management. Topics include macro planning, forecasting techniques, workforce, process scheduling and material requirements planning, and part two covers inventory systems management models and techniques (both deterministic and stochastic models), and lot sizing in continuous and periodic audit systems. The module also provides students with an understanding of the components of supply chain management and their role in business functions and other functions. It creates value, build a competitive infrastructure, leverage global logistics, synchronize demand with supply chains, and measure performance on a global scale. Logistics is the part of the supply chain that deals with the storage and distribution of goods and services in the right quantity, in the right condition, at the right time and in the right place.
This module designed to enable students to anticipate decisions that managers frequently face, informing decision-making through a combination of grounded marketing theory and robust marketing metrics. The module considers empirical generalizations and moderating conditions through analysis of complex real-world business situations.
This module designed to enable students develop a significant understanding of the principles, processes, practices and theory of people management in high performing, innovative organisations to gain significant understanding of what drives the ‘people’ aspects of innovation success – the unspoken, including ‘irrational’ human emotions and instincts. The module will also help students understand the team (or group) aspects and customer relationship aspects that drive innovation and design.
This module describes financial accounting information from a range of organizational perspectives. It will help students explore the theoretical frameworks, concepts and ideas needed to critique and develop strategy, informed by financial data and metrics, extending their skills and confidence in measuring financial performance.
The module is composed of two units: Report Writing and Presentation Style; and Seminar Preparation and Presentation. The unit on report writing and presentation style familiarizes students to common procedures applied in scientific report writing and also methods of preparing a presentation material appropriate for different types of audiences; and oral presentation skills. Seminar preparation and presentation engages students actively in selection of current international business topic for review and presentation; as well as in selection of an academic advisor. Pertinent and current research issues in the field of international business will be identified and comprehensive scientific review will be written for public presentation. In this unit the advisor regulates the reviewing process as well as critically evaluates the review paper’s subject matter and provides proper feedback to the students.
The module is essentially a master’s thesis which shall demonstrate individual academic efforts of the student to identify problems in various business enterprises in Ethiopia. The research is expected to help in understanding business problems in public and private organisations and potential means of intervention.
